How much does the POTUS really have to do with the economy?

I keep hearing people make Presidents responsible for everything that happened during their term, especially with the economy. It doesn't matter what Preisdent we're talking about, they do it with all of them. But, seriously, the President is just one man, and I don't think he has THAT much power. So, how much influence does he really have over those matters?
