Were Palin and Obama scapegoats for the political parties?

You have the order backwards; Obama was already a candidate when McCain got all Mavericky and chose Palin because he thought Clinton would be the Democratic nominee. So McCain was playing the game, Obama was just running for Prez. Sadly though, McCain didn't realize he had chosen a total moo-cow until it was too late.
