Rock Band Guitar Problem?

Ok, I went to this Canada Day yard sale, and got this Rock Band guitar, the "faux-wood guitar" (released around Rock Band 2) but I wasn't given a receiver for it. I already had Rock Band guitar for the original guitar, but it will not connect to it, is there a way that i could try that i could connect it or did i just wast my money?
