Property sold/30 days to get out?

We are asking for my niece's mom. Her and her bf were renting a house, had a year lease. The property sold and they were given 30 days to get out. What if they can't find a place? Since the landlord broke the lease does he have to help them? How does this work? We all live in Illinois. More than likely they will come here to live until they can find a place. But what irks me is the landlord never told them the place was up for sale. No for sale sign. Then he sold all his properties to another person and now they have to get out.
